In April, Ukrainian drones attacked ports and oil refineries, forcing Russia to cut oil production by 300,000\u2013400,000 barrels per day \u2014 <strong>the sharpest monthly decline in Russian output in six years.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former British Army officer Hamish de Bretton-Gordon wrote in the Telegraph: <strong>&#8220;The scaled-back parade is not merely symbolic \u2014 it is an acknowledgement of decline.&#8221;<\/strong> He noted that even relocating S-400 air defence systems from the front line cannot guarantee the Kremlin the security of its own capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Giles agreed: <strong>&#8220;This is a direct admission that Ukraine could theoretically strike at the very heart of Moscow.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Military setbacks are taking a toll on Putin&#8217;s approval ratings as well. <strong>A poll by the Kremlin-linked FOM institute found that only 71% of Russians trust their president \u2014 the worst result in seven years.<\/strong> Putin himself acknowledged that Russia&#8217;s GDP fell 1.8% in January and February, while the Central Bank governor warned of continuously deteriorating external conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A parade without military hardware on Red Square is not simply a change of format.
